Penguin soldier designs for Batman Returns (1992) by Tim Flattery.
I remember seeing the movie for the first time, I was 15 or so. I loved it. I had been a fan of the first one and had been anticipating the sequel, and it didn’t disappoint, though it did seem to disappoint pretty much everyone else. It was dark, weird, cold, the Penguin had greenish, evil oil coming out of his mouth. I had a teen crush on Michelle Pfeiffer. Say about it what you will: it didn’t just repeat the first film, it wandered off into the dark.
It had a strange atmosphere, even the big sets felt claustrophobic. As if everything took place in a village square during Christmas: as if it was all just a local affair.
